Department of Teacher Education goals, 2007-2008

Throughout the year, faculty members will have opportunities to share how they are addressing these goals and objectives:

Teaching

Goal 1: Provide high quality, standards-based instruction that prepares pre-service and in-service teachers to use appropriate standards (specialty association standards, Georgia performance standards, etc.) to meet the needs of diverse learners through the implementation and modeling of best practices.

  • Objective 1: Evaluate and, as needed, modify the experiences of teacher candidates as they participate in field experiences through the Partner School Network.
  • Objective 2: Continue to fill needed faculty positions in the Teacher Education Department.
  •  Objective 3: Obtain developmental approval from the Professional Standards Commission for the P-5 Science Endorsement and School Library Media programs.
  • Objective 4: Examine courses taught in the Department of Teacher Education for ways to improve the use of writing as a tool to enhance student learning.
  • Objective 5: Examine graduate courses in the Department of Teacher Education for possible ways to align with the Georgia Framework for Teaching.

Goal 2: Collaborate as a department and then college to develop a summer schedule that meets the needs of students and allows fair and equitable compensation for faculty who teach in the summer.

Goal 3: Maintain a strong collaborative relationship with the Office of Services and Field Experiences and its advisors (e.g., to continue to keep the advisors updated on issues such as program changes, scheduling, etc.). Improve advising with the SAFE Office and other departments in the College of Arts and Letters and College of Science

Scholarship

Goal 4: Promote and support scholarly activities, research and professional development of faculty and staff.

  • Objective 1: Continue to provide a support system that acclimates new faculty to the department, college and university.
  • Objective 2: Continue to support pay raises that are competitive within and outside of CSU as faculty approach tenure, promotion and other times of evaluation.
  • Objective 3: Secure and allocate funds for approved faculty research projects.

Goal 5: Demonstrate reflective, critical thinking in diverse environments.

Goal 6: Engage in lifelong learning in diverse environments.

Professionalism

Goal 7: Enhance existing and develop new partnerships such as those with the Partner School Network, Program Advisory Committees, Adjunct/Part-time Faculty and programs, agencies and departments at CSU.

Goal 8: Enhance the visibility and awareness of Teacher Education in the community through activities such as updating and enhancing program brochures and flyers; developing a public relations/advertisement plan for programs and recruiting students (particularly at the graduate levels); and by publicizing Teacher Education events and accomplishments at CSU through available outlets.

Goal 9: Facilitate collaboration among part-time and full-time faculty within Teacher Education programs and among part-time and full-time faculty from different Teacher Education programs.
