P-5 Mathematics Endorsement

Program Description
The five courses (15-16 semester hours) in the P-5 Mathematics Endorsement program are aligned with the Mathematical Education of Teachers, a report published by the College Board of Mathematical Science (CBMS, 2001), the Principles and Standards for School Mathematics (National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, 2001) and the K-5 Georgia Performance Standards for mathematics. Pedagogy is integrated into the courses through pedagogical reading assignments and projects. The first course (MATH 2008 or MAED 6130) establishes a foundation for subsequent courses. The methods course (EDEC 4247 or EDEC 6125) is intended to act as a capstone, providing additional pedagogical depth for practices modeled in the mathematics courses and discussion of topics not explicitly addressed in the mathematics courses, such as assessment practices and the mathematical learner in elementary classrooms. These courses may be applied toward a master’s degree
