Chemistry and Secondary EducationWelcome!We are pleased that you are considering secondary chemistry education as a career. We are confident that you will find science teaching stimulating and rewarding. It will give you the chance to put your knowledge and interests to use as you develop the minds of future generations. Science teachers are in short supply, and you will find potential employers eager to recruit and retain you. We want you to succeed and will make every effort to ensure that you are well prepared to teach in today's schools. Congratulations for choosing to teach science and welcome to our department. Program descriptionThe B.A. in Chemistry and Secondary Education program at CSU provides preservice teachers a solid knowledge base emphasizing contemporary theory and research. Students also participate in field experiences in settings which reflect diverse populations of adolescents. Career opportunitiesThe B.A. in Chemistry and Secondary Education leads to entry level certification to teach biology in grades 6-12. A minimal amount of additional coursework will lead to certification which will allow you to teach at any middle school grade (4-8). Certification is at the T4 level (Georgia). Admission requirementsAdmission into the Teacher Education Program. Applications can be obtained in the Office of COE Services & Field Experiences in Room 107, Jordan Hall or call 706-568-2191 or To be eligible for recommendation by Columbus State University for a Georgia professional teaching certificate, students must complete a rigorous program of coursework.
