Teaching

Goal 1: Provide high quality, standards-based instruction that prepares pre-service and in-service teachers to use appropriate standards (specialty association standards, Georgia performance standards, etc.) to meet the needs of diverse learners through the implementation and modeling of best practices.

  • Objective 1: Continue to fill needed faculty positions in the Teacher Education Department.
  • Objective 2: Review assessment instruments and rubrics (MAP, Dispositions, GMAP) and revise as necessary.
  • Objective 3: Develop high quality online courses to help meet the needs of students.
  • Objective 4: Monitor course enrollments to ensure the quality and integrity of our programs.
  • Objective 5: Provide professional development opportunities for students and inservice teachers (e.g., technology workshop, ESL workshop, study abroad).

Goal 2: Collaborate as a department and then college to develop a summer schedule that meets the needs of students and allows fair and equitable compensation for faculty who teach in the summer.

Goal 3: Maintain a strong collaborative relationship with the Office of Student Advising and and Field Experiences and its advisors (e.g., to continue to keep the advisors updated on issues such as program changes, scheduling, etc.). Improve advising with the SAFE Office and other departments in the College of Letters and Sciences.

Scholarship

Goal 4: Promote and support scholarly activities, research and professional development of faculty and staff.

  • Objective 1: Continue to provide a support system to acclimate new faculty to the department, college and university.
  • Objective 2: Continue to support pay raises that are competitive within and outside of CSU as faculty approach tenure, promotion and other times of evaluation.
  • Objective 3: Provide professional development opportunities to help faculty enhance instruction with technology and develop online courses.

Professionalism

Goal 5: Enhance existing and develop new partnerships such as those with the Partner School Network, Program Advisory Committees, Adjunct/Part-time Faculty and programs, agencies and departments at CSU.

Goal 6: Enhance the visibility and awareness of Teacher Education in the community.

  • Objective 1: Use the COEHP Newsletter and other available outlets to publicize Teacher Education events and accomplishments.
  • Objective 2: Update program brochures and flyers; promote the new M.A.T. programs.
  • Objective 3: Develop a public relations/advertisement plan for programs and recruiting students (particularly at the graduate levels).

Goal 7: Facilitate collaboration among part-time and full-time faculty within Teacher Education programs and among part-time and full-time faculty from different Teacher Education programs.
